Custom brewery beer tap handles

Posted on Dec 28, 2014 in Beer Tap Handles, Home Decor

As one of my favorite projects for 2014, I have created custom wooden beer tap handles for a beer brewery in London.  I was provided a sketch and a logo, and designed the tap handles according to the specifications of the client.  This project had a tight budget which I was able to adhere to while delivering to the client exactly what he wanted.

These custom beer tap handles are made from locally harvested ambrosia maple, cut by a local sawyer and kiln dried.  Ambrosia maple is soft maple that has been infested by ambrosia beetles.  The unique striped look is made by fungus that is brought into the tree by the beetles, causing the wood to be discolored.

The beer tap handles measure 7 1/4″ tall and have a taper from 2 1/2″ to 1 1/8″.  They are 1 1/8″ thick and are etched on three sides.  Finished with multiple coats of wipe on poly and finish sanded with a 4000 grit sandpaper, these tap handles are extremely smooth.
